History of Slap Ya Mama

The Walker family takes great pride in their high-quality Cajun seasonings and recipes, which are produced in Ville Platte, Louisiana. Ville Platte is known as the smoked meats capital of the world and is famous for its jousting tournament, Floyd's Record Shop, and Chicot State Park. It is a truly magical place, even by Louisiana's standards.

In 1956, Wilda Marie Fontenot Walker gave birth to Anthony Walker, also known as "TW", the creator of the renowned Slap Ya Mama brand seasoning. While managing the family deli, TW searched for a Cajun seasoning with authentic pepper taste and low salt content. When he couldn't find one, he decided to create his own.

TW involved his young sons, Jack and Joe, in the process by having them mix the seasoning in an antique glass pickle jar. The Walker's Cajun seasoning became so popular that they decided to give it a name. TW would often say that the seasoning was so good, it deserved a loving slap on the back and a kiss on the cheek for creating a delicious Cajun dish. And so, Walker & Son's Cajun brand Slap Ya Mama was born in Ville Platte, Louisiana.
